Datavisualization.ch is a website dedicated to data and information visualization. The mission is keep track of the eclectic research results in this field. This includes cognistions from self initiated studies as well as it provides an overview of the developement done by the incredible smart people in the community.

It evolved from our research blog that we used to gather the resources for our bachelor’s project. Beside our own continuing research in this field, we’ll document the newest creations by some of the smartes people around. The “Cutting Edge” is a moderated new section where we document the newest creations we encounter. We’ve built a pretty neat dashboard to monitor this agile community and stay on top of the cutting edge of information.

Exactly for this case I’ve launched DataZoo. It’s a repository of links to open available datasets. It’s maintained by the community itself and everybody is welcome to contribute to the list.

The application was built using delicious.com as the aggregation engine of links tagged with “datazoo” and the feed.informer.com application. Feed.informer let’s you melt different feeds together and provides you with the necessary Javascript or PHP codesnippet to include it in your own site.

I’ve tagged a small set of links to ignite the flame of collaboration – feel free to contribute and help to grow the zoo.

UPDATE: With the arrival of steady growing data platforms like data.gov and the like, I decided to stop aggregating external links. With these well structured archives, finding data just got a lot easier.

The 80s Day website is a collection of mixtapes created on Mixwit.com that cover different flavours of music from the good old times. I came up with the idea of a day totally dedicated to 80′s music and soon after articulating the concept, everybody jumped on it and contributed with his very own taste of 80′s music.
This was such a spontanous idea that we had to finish it before lunch and it was all fun and pure inspiration.

The IAD Universe is a Netvibes Universe i developed for the Interaction Design programm at the ZHDK. It serves internal information to the visitor about IAD as well as general media and information about IxD, Visualization, Usability and the likes.

The whole data is retrieved from several different sources mashed up using services like Dapper and Yahoo Pipes and finally presented using the slick interface of Netvibes.

The developement is still ongoing and therefore not all the fields are covered yet.

The Bunker.li has changed it’s functionality and became a multi-user blog of a small group of creative individuals. The content ranges from design snippets to discussions regarding the design itself, the design industry as well as design education.

The Artillery Lab is the predecessor of Artillery.ch. It serves now as a playground and field for experiences with all kind of web related technology.

For the work on my bachelor’s thesis I’ve set up a simple research / documentation / presentation blog for my mentors, involved experts and my co-worker Christian Siegrist and me where we store our thinking. It emerged that this workflow was very good to stay up to date with our research for external people and helped us communicating less directly and therefore beeing more productive.

SWX-Wordpress is a SWX Service to connect to the WordPress API. With this Service it is possible to retrieve data from a WordPress database and use it in Flash, Flex or Air.

Bei Refine geht es darum, bestehende Interfaces zu analysieren und durch kleine Anpassungen oder eben “refinements” Verbesserungen in der Benutzbarkeit zu erreichen. Wichtig hierbei ist die Erkenntnis, dass oft durch kleine und kleinste Anpassungen grosse Verbesserungen möglich sind.

Bunker ist eine Plattform für Gestalter in Ausbildung. Es werden Themen als Aufgaben vergeben und junge Gestalter können diese Themen frei umsetzen und erhalten so Feedback, Präsentationsmöglichkeit und Motivation neben der Ausbildung Projekte zu realisieren.
